The Reward I Seek
A confession from the least
I do not seek applause.
I do not seek legacy.
I do not seek to be remembered.
But I do seek this:
That when all is said,
when the lantern is spent,
when the silence has done its work—
I might hear Him say,
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Not because I was strong.
Not because I was wise.
But because I remained.
Because I knelt when it cost me.
Because I spoke
when it was safer to be silent.
Because I did not let go of the light.
I am the least in His kingdom
and that is my joy
to be small enough to be held
to be quiet enough to be heard
to be faithful enough
to be called His.

Just a lantern,
gently placed.
