Create in Us Clean Hearts
We do not come with polished offerings.
We come with dust on our feet.
We come with wounds still healing.
We come with hearts that have wandered.
But we come.
Not to impress You,
but to be restored by You.
Create in us
clean hearts, O God—
not perfect hearts,
but surrendered ones.
Renew a right spirit within us—
not a loud spirit,
but a listening one.
Cast us not away
from Your presence,
even when we’ve hidden from it.
Take not Your Holy Spirit from us,
even when we
have grieved it.
Restore to us
the joy of Your salvation—
not the thrill of being right,
but the peace of being Yours.
And uphold us
with a willing spirit—
willing to kneel,
willing to wait,
willing to walk the quiet path.
We are not mighty.
We are not many.
but we are Yours.
Create in us clean hearts, O God. And let the lantern burn again.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10
