If I Do Nothing
A reckoning with the broken chain
The chain of discipleship is broken.
Not by malice.
Not by scandal.
But by neglect.
For decades,
the church has grown wide
but not deep.
Programs flourish.
Friendships abound.
But the sacred link—
one soul forming another—
has been forgotten.
And I see it now.
If I do nothing,
nothing will change.
No one will come.
No one will offer.
No one will say,
“I will walk with you.”
But if I do something—
if I light one lantern,
if I offer one page,
if I say to one soul,
“You are not alone”—
then the chain begins again.
Not with spectacle.
Not with strategy.
But with presence.
And that is enough.
The Ordinary Path
is lit
for those who seek mercy,
memory,
and meaning.

but always honored.
If this offering stirred something in you—
a memory,
a question,
a flicker of light—
you are welcome to share
your reflection below.
No need for eloquence.
No need for certainty.
Just a lantern,
gently placed.
