Why Scripture Matters Now (and Why We Won’t Need It in Heaven)

One of the most beautiful truths about Scripture is also one of the least understood: the Bible is precious because it is temporary.

Not temporary in value. Not temporary in truth. Temporary in purpose.

Scripture is God’s gift for this part of the journey—this age of faith, this world of shadows, this life where we “see through a glass darkly.” It is the lamp for our feet, the guide for our steps, the voice that calls us toward the One we cannot yet see.

But a lamp is only necessary when the sun has not yet risen.

In the world to come, when we stand in the presence of Christ Himself, the written Word will have completed its mission. We won’t need chapters and verses to know God’s heart. We won’t need study tools to understand His ways. We won’t need reminders, promises, or prophecies—because every promise will be fulfilled, every prophecy completed, every longing satisfied.

The written Word prepares us for the day when the Living Word is our light.

Scripture is the signpost. Christ is the destination.

And when we finally arrive, we won’t cling to the sign—we will embrace the One it was pointing to all along.

This is why the Bible is so precious now. Not because it will last forever in its present form, but because it leads us to the One who will.

The Ordinary Path is the path of faith—trusting God through His Word today, so that one day we will know Him face‑to‑face, without needing a book to tell us who He is.
